Rheumatology

At the DHR Health Rheumatology Institute, we specialize in treating a range of common rheumatic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren’s Syndrome, Myositis Vasculitis, Gout and other connective tissue disorders. Our team uses advanced diagnostic tools, such as ultrasound and arthrocentesis, to provide precise and effective care tailored to each patient’s needs. With a commitment to improving quality of life, we’re here to support patients every step of the way.

Arthrocentesis

Arthocentesis consists of removing fluid from a joint that is causing pain or is swollen. This procedure is performed to gather information that can help make a diagnosis, relieve pressure or to clear out fluid from the joint prior to a therapeutic injection.

Autoimmune and Inflammatory Diseases

With over one hundred autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, it can be difficult to receive a diagnosis. At DHR Health, a rheumatologist is specifically trained to diagnose and treat these illnesses. Treatment options can specifically target parts of the immune system to stop the inflammation causing damage.

Joint Disorders

Joint disorders describe any abnormal condition that involving the joint and can be caused by infection, inflammation, injury, degeneration, congenital deformity, or neoplasm. Proper testing with your Rheumatologist will provide a diagnosis for treatment and rehabilitation.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound technology is available in the clinic to quickly provide an image of bones, joints and tendons. The non-invasive procedure can be used to diagnose and treat rheumatic conditions with better accuracy.

FAQ:

We accept most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace plans. Coverage depends on your specific plan and benefits. Please call us at (956) 362-2400 so we can verify your coverage.

  • Osteoarthritis (OA): Caused by wear and tear over time. It usually affects one or a few joints and causes pain and stiffness that can improve with movement but worsen later in the day.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA): An autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own joints, causing pain, swelling, and fatigue. It often affects joints on both sides of the body and can progress quickly. It can also cause whole-body symptoms such as fatigue, fever, and anemia.

The two conditions have different causes and disease processes, which is why diagnosis and treatment also differ.

Not always. A positive ANA (antinuclear antibody) test means certain antibodies are found in your blood, but this alone does not confirm an autoimmune disease.

  • Low ANA levels can be seen in many healthy people. Only a small percentage of people with a positive ANA actually develop conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or scleroderma.
  • Higher ANA levels and certain patterns on the test can suggest a higher chance of autoimmune disease, but your symptoms and other test results are just as important for diagnosis.

Before scheduling, our team will review your information to determine if you meet the criteria for a rheumatology evaluation. This can happen in two ways:

  • Call Us: We will explain what information is needed, such as your medical history, current symptoms, and previous test results.
  • Primary care provider (PCP) or specialist referral: They will submit the required details on your behalf.

Once reviewed, we will contact you to confirm whether your appointment is approved and assist you with scheduling.

You may benefit from seeing a rheumatologist if you have been diagnosed with, or show signs of, any of the following:

  • Persistent joint pain, swelling, or stiffness
  • Autoimmune disorders such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
  • Unexplained fatigue, rashes, or fevers
  • Inflammation not improving with standard treatment
  • Connective tissue diseases or unexplained inflammation
