Biography

DHR Health is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Juan M. Ortiz, a board-certified pulmonologist and critical care specialist. Ortiz will be serving the communities of Cameron and Starr counties, furthering DHR Health's mission of elevating the standard of care for all residents of the Rio Grande Valley.

With over 35 years of experience as a physician, Ortiz began his career in New York before relocating to the Rio Grande Valley. He earned his medical degree from Universidad El Bosque in Colombia, and worked for several years as a medical officer with cruise ship companies gaining extensive experience in emergency care. He started his residency in Internal Medicine in New York City at Beth Israel Medical Center, followed by dedicated fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Additionally, he pursued a third fellowship in Sleep Medicine at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital.

Shortly after finishing his fellowship training, he came to the RGV where he has provided care both in pulmonary and sleep medicine as well as critical care since 2003.
