Pre-Surgical Lab Tests FAQ

Pre-Surgical Lab Tests FAQ

What is a pre-admission lab test?
The PAT (Pre Admission Test) affords the patient the opportunity to get all laboratory blood work drawn and examined prior to the day of surgery.  This expedites the whole process for the healthcare team.  If a patient comes the day of surgery for lab work they will possibly put the procedure behind schedule due to the wait time for results. Additionally, if some test results are abnormal, the surgical procedure may be cancelled.

Do I need an appointment for pre-admission lab tests?
No. The lab at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is open Monday through Sunday from 6:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Patients may stop by any time during these hours for their tests.

Where do I go for my lab tests?
Doctors Hospital at Renaissance has three lab locations – the main hospital, The Wellness Center at Renaissance, and The Women’s Hospital at Renaissance. Your physician will decide which location you should go to.

How soon before surgery do I need to get my labs?
It is requested that you arrive for lab testing at least 24-48 hours and no more than three days prior to surgery.

Do I need to be fasting for my lab tests?
No. Most tests do not require the patient to be fasting
