Our Mission
We believe that everyone should have access to the most advanced endoscopic procedures. As one of the largest and most advanced endoscopy units in South Texas, we offer high quality, advanced technology, and skilled professionals for the safest, most optimal medical care.

Endoscopy Department - An Overview
The Endoscopy Unit at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is dedicated to the performance of gastroscopies, colonoscopies as well as other gastrointestinal diagnostic tests and endoscopic procedures. Our facility features prompt and efficient care in a comfortable setting. Registered nurses and a specialty trained team staff our unit.
Outpatients are contacted via telephone the day before their procedure, so we can answer any questions they may have. Upon arrival, various members of our health care team including clinical nurses and physicians individually assess all patients.
Once the procedure is over, patients are continuously monitored until discharge criteria is met. We provide specific discharge instructions including activity, diet and follow up care. A phone call is also made the following day by our clinical nurses to assess how you are feeling and if there are any additional needs or concerns that we may help you with.

Award-Winning Endoscopy Unit
Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) was awarded a National Certificate of Recognition by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) for quality services and patient safety in 2010 and remains current with this recognition. The ASGE Unit Recognition Program is designed to honor facilities that excel in following the ASGE guidelines for quality care.  Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is one of only 450 facilities recognized across the nation this year.
“The ASGE recognition reflects our commitment to bringing our patients the very best in medical care.  We are extremely proud of our physicians, nurses, techs, and staff. Their hard work and dedication to putting the needs of patients first made this possible,” said Dr. Carlos Cardenas, DHR Chairman of the Board.
“A key component of our success is the commitment of our staff to invest in the latest medical research, education, and training.  Our Endoscopy Department excelled by completing numerous courses on the latest guidelines and best practices in Endoscopy Care by the ASGE,” said Marissa Castañeda, Chief Operations Officer at DHR.
ASGE is the premier entity in issues regarding endoscopic procedures and safety protocols in the nation. “This recognition is another achievement by the DHR Endoscopy Unit, which goes with our dedication in providing not only cutting-edge technology, but assuring quality to our community,” said Dr. Asif Zamir, DHR Gastroenterologist.
Endoscopy is a diagnostic medical procedure that is used to assess the interior surfaces of an organ by inserting a tube into the body. The instrument may have a rigid or flexible tube and not only provide an image for visual inspection and photography, but also enable taking biopsies and retrieval of foreign objects. Endoscopy is the vehicle for minimally invasive surgery and patients may receive conscious sedation so they do not have to be consciously aware of the discomfort.
As the profession’s leader, ASGE sets the standards of excellence in endoscopy through its guidelines and training so that patients receive the best and safest care possible.  The National Certificate of Recognition awarded to DHR is issued for a three-year period.
“Once again, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance has renewed its commitment to providing some of the world’s best healthcare right here at home,” stated Laura Disque, DHR Vice President of Nursing Surgical and Procedural Service Lines.  “We are excited and proud to be the largest and most advanced GI/Endoscopy lab in South Texas.”
