Diabetes Education

At the Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute at Renaissance, our diabetes educators empower you with the knowledge that you need to improve your quality of life and reduce your risk of diabetes-associated complications.

When you are first diagnosed with diabetes, it is often overwhelming. There is so much you need to know and do. Most importantly, you must know the seven self-care behaviors that can help control your diabetes: healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medication, problem solving, reducing risks and healthy coping. Each of these self care behaviors is difficult to follow, but our diabetes educators are here to help. At the Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute at Renaissance, our registered nurses and skilled educators assist patients in gaining knowledge about self-care behaviors. Together, the educator and patient find ways to improve self-management and quality of life.

Diabetes education is the cornerstone of diabetes management, because diabetes requires day-to-day knowledge of nutrition, exercise, monitoring, and medication. Diabetes education makes you more aware of diabetes, what it takes to treat it, and gives you the power to control it. Diabetes education allows you to better incorporate education into your life and make the necessary changes to improve your lifestyle. Please refer to the following resources to help you navigate the issues you may face while managing your diabetes:
