Wound Care Center
A blister on the foot or scrape on
the arm is no concern to most people. But
for individuals with diabetes, impaired
mobility or poor blood circulation, a simple
wound can be a serious problem.
When should one be concerned about a non-healing
or chronic wound? Chronic wounds are those
that do not show improvement within four
weeks and do not completely heal within
eight weeks.

Wound management treatment begins
with a referral from the primary care physician
and calling to schedule an appointment at our
wound care center. Treatment, which is covered
by most insurance plans, allows a thorough analysis
and plan of care to be developed for healing chronic
wounds.
The patient’s general health
history and the wound are examined. Special tests
may be performed in order to gather information
about the blood and oxygen flow to the affected
area.
Hyperbaric medicine may be a recommended
therapy. It is a treatment in which the patient’s
entire body is placed under increased atmospheric
pressure in a closely monitored, airtight chamber.
During treatment, the patient breathes 100 percent
oxygen for a specific amount of time at a specific
pressure (approximately 2 hours). Breathing 100
percent oxygen increases the amount of oxygen
reaching damaged tissues in the body – thereby
promoting healing.
Treatments are painless and can be used to treat
patients with non-healing wounds, chronic soft
tissue infections, chronic bone infections, radiation
damaged tissue and many other disorders.
A personal healing plan is developed, and most
treatment plans are completed within 8 to 12 weeks.
