Doctors Hospital at Renaissance will hold ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Cancer Center at Renaissance on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 6:00 PM. The recently completed 54,000 square foot, state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility is located at 2717 Michael Angelo Drive on the corner of Dove and McColl in Edinburg.

The Cancer Center at Renaissance will provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and support to cancer patients from the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas and surrounding areas. A team of specially trained doctors and nurses are backed up by the most state-of-the-art equipment including two linear accelerators, 30 infusion treatment stations, a PET CT scanner, and a 16 Slice CT. Marissa Castañeda, DHR Chief Operations Officer states, “Patients will receive world class treatment right here in the Valley. Expensive trips to out of town treatment clinics will be virtually eliminated.” In addition to the doctors, nurses and technology the Cancer Center at Renaissance professionals will help patients maintain quality of life through nutrition counseling and patient support groups. Throughout the treatment, the multi-disciplinary team will work together tending to the patients needs to ensure that the patient receives only the best medical care.

Dr. Eugenio Galindo, Oncology and Hematology Specialist states, “The new Cancer Center at Renaissance doesn’t just treat cancer, it treats people with cancer. Our patient people centered approach gives hope as well as support at a time when they need it the most.” Dr. Oscar Garcia, Radiation Oncologist adds, “The state of the art radiation therapy equipment will be able to provide IMRT, which is a very precise manner to deliver radiation therapy while minimizing side effects of treatment.” Dr. Garcia continues, “Also, stereotactic radiosurgery will be available at this center to treat brain tumors without surgery. High dose rate of brachytherapy will be also available to treat internal organs at specific locations minimizing exposure to other organs.”
The grand opening will offer the community a chance to tour the facility and get a behind the scenes look at the Valley’s newest and most modern cancer treatment facility in South Texas.

The Cancer Center at Renaissance is expected to treat approximately 680 patients in the first year of operation.
