DHR’s Renaissance Laboratories received Laboratory Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally recognized program and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors. The goal of the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is to improve patient safety by advancing the quality of pathology and laboratory services through education, standard setting, and ensuring laboratories meet or exceed regulatory requirements. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.


DHR Receives “A” Patient Safety ScoreDHR Receives “A” Patient Safety Score

DHR was awarded an “A” in the Spring 2014 patient safety scores, making it the highest achieving facility in the Rio Grande Valley. The Hospital Safety Score program is designed to protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. DHR’s “A” score is the highest grade in patient safety that a hospital can achieve. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog group. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.


DHR Awarded 3-Year Accreditation for Its Rehabilitation ServicesDHR Awarded 3-Year Accreditation for Its Rehabilitation Services

In 2014, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF International) awarded DHR with accreditation for a period of three years for its inpatient adult and adolescent rehabilitation programs. DHR’s superior performance during the accreditation review process placed it among the top facilities surveyed by CARF, both nationally and internationally. In addition to being the only rehabilitation program in Edinburg to receive CARF accreditation, DHR is the only program in South Texas with Stroke Specialty Program accreditation. Update Endoscopy Unit Receives National Quality Recognition with the following information: DHR has been awarded a National Certificate of Recognition by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) for its quality services and patient safety. The ASGE Unit Recognition Program is designed to honor facilities that excel in following the ASGE guidelines for quality care. This distinction reflects the high quality of endoscopic care being provided at DHR by our excellent physicians, nurses, techs, and support staff. Awarded for a three year term, DHR received its first Certificate of Recognition in 2010 and was recertified in December 2013.


Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient CareChest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care

As evidence of its high level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive at the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack, DHR was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). To become an Accredited Chest Pain Center, DHR engaged in a rigorous evaluation by SCPC for its ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. To the community served by DHR, this means that processes are in place that meet strict criteria aimed at (1) reducing the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment; (2) treating patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved; and (3) monitoring patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital.


Heart Failure Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient CareDoctors Hospital at Renaissance Bariatric and Metabolic Institute named Center of Excellence

DHR's Bariatric and Metabolic Institute (DHR BMI) received United Healthcare’s Optum Center of Excellence Designation for 2013-2014. This designation assures patients that the bariatric surgery and post-surgical care are delivered in a manner that meets strict standards and increases the likelihood of superior outcomes and ultimately reduces costs.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of ExcellenceDHR BMI has been an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence since 2009. In 2013, DHR BMI became a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Center of Excellence. MBSAQIP is the unified program developed through the joining of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. To become a Center of Excellence, DHR BMI went through an extensive approval process, including an onsite inspection of its facility. The rigorous certification criteria stresses safety, proficiency and volume. Renaissance BMI’s program approaches bariatric surgery with participation from a team of experts who provide in-depth medical care, education, assistance with behavior modifications, psychological counseling, and support before, during and after the surgery.


Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement AwardGet With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold information Plus Quality Achievement Award

In 2014, DHR received the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association for the treatment of stroke patients. Get With The Guidelines® Stroke helps hospital teams provide the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. DHR earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include aggressive use of medications and risk-reduction therapies aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance was awarded Heart Failure Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), an international not-for-profit organization that focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction. Achievement of this accreditation signifies DHR’s dedication to fostering better outcomes for patients in its heart failure program and it demonstrates that DHR’s services have met critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for patients diagnosed with and being treated for heart failure. More importantly, DHR is the first and only healthcare institution in the Rio Grande Valley to receive Heart Failure Accreditation from SCPC.

Three DHR imaging centers were awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR)! The three imaging centers awarded ACR accreditation are Med Point Imaging Center, Lone Star Imaging Center, and the radiology department located on DHR’s Main Campus. CT scanning — sometimes called CAT scanning — is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Recipient of the 2012 Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Silver AwardSilver Award from TMF® Health Quality Institute, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Texas

The Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Awards recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated excellence in health care quality through improved performance on national quality measures. Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is one of 118 hospitals in Texas that received the Silver Award. The awards acknowledge hospitals for improving care related to acute myocardial infarction or AMI (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. These clinical areas have been designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission. The Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Awards recognize Texas hospitals that have undertaken quality initiatives to improve outcomes in patient care and have improved their performance on specific national quality measures. For its Silver Award, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance had to achieve an ACM score of 90-100 percent and meet all other requirements, which can be found at http://award.tmf.org.

Becker’s Hospital Review named DHR one of the “82 Physician-Owned Hospitals to Know” for being a high-performing leader in patient care and clinical quality.

To compile this list, the Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team analyzed and reviewed research and data from sources including U.S. News & World Report, HealthGrades, Press Ganey, CareChex and Thomson Reuters to identify leading hospitals. The list was also vetted by industry experts. For inclusion on this list, hospitals needed to have at least partial ownership by a physician or physicians. Endoscopy Unit Receives National Quality Recognition

The Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) endoscopy unit was recognized by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program for promoting quality in endoscopy. The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program is a new program specifically dedicated to promoting quality in endoscopy and honoring those units that follow the ASGE guidelines for quality and patient safety. The ASGE recognition reflects the high quality of endoscopic care being provided at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance by our excellent physicians, nurses, techs, and support staff.

Named One of the "Best Hospitals in America"

DHR was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Best Hospitals in America” for 2014-2015! DHR was named the #25 hospital in the state of Texas and received the title of Best Hospital in the Rio Grande Valley. DHR was recognized as high performing in three specialties— geriatrics, nephrology, and neurology/ neurosurgery. DHR is the only hospital in the RGV to receive high performing achievement marks.


National Recognition for Exemplary Outcomes from the American College of Surgeons

The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) has recognized DHR as one of few ACS NSQIP participating hospitals in the United States to have achieved exemplary outcomes for surgical patient care.  As a participant in ACS NSQIP, DHR is required to track the outcomes of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and collect data that directs patient safety and the quality of surgical care improvements.
