University of Texas Medical Branch and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Reopen Dysplasia Clinic for the Community

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is proud to announce the opening of the UTMB Cancer Stop and Dysplasia Clinic at Renaissance. The clinic is now located at 620 S. Broadway Avenue in McAllen, Texas. A grand opening and dedication ceremony was held on Friday, October 30, 2009. Doctors Hospital at Renaissance physicians, Board of Managers, administration and staff joined UTMB representative, Dr. Edward Hannigan at the ceremony. State Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa was the keynote speaker and emphasized the commitment by Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in its efforts to provide access to quality health care in the community.  According to UTMB, the clinic served more than 4,000 women last year.

“Doctors Hospital at Renaissance joined forces with UTMB by providing funding and clinic space in McAllen, thus making cancer prevention and detection services more accessible to Rio Grande Valley residents,” states Marissa Castañeda, Chief Operations Officer for Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.

The Cervical Dysplasia and Cancer Stop Clinic opened in McAllen in 1972. It primarily served low-income women who did not have health insurance. Colposcopy services are now provided on a daily basis by the nurse practitioner. Gynecology services related to cervical dysplasia or cancer are also provided. UTMB faculty staffs this clinic to provide these services to the community. The clinic, which is open five days a week, also manages the Dysplasia and Cancer Stop services, which provide breast and cervical cancer screenings, mammography referrals, colposcopy evaluations, and cervical Dysplasia treatments. Follow-up care for patients with gynecologic cancer, who have completed their treatments in Galveston, is provided by a UTMB gynecologist/oncologist at the McAllen clinic twice a month.

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance continues to be the premier healthcare provider in South Texas. For more information or to learn more about the clinic, contact DHR at (956) 661-7555 or visit our website at www.dhr-rgv.com .
