DOCTORS HOSPITAL AT RENAISSANCE CELEBRATES NATIONAL DRESS IN BLUE DAY

EDINBURG, TX— Employees of Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) celebrated National Dress in Blue Day on Friday, March 05, 2010 in an effort to raise awareness about colon cancer. Dress in Blue Day launches National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place in March and encourages individuals, businesses and community groups to wear blue and talk to each other about the importance of colon cancer screenings.

“Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States. Dress in Blue Day is a way to get people to talk about this important issue and save lives in the process,” states Marissa Castañeda, DHR Chief Operations Officer.

Everyone 50 years of age and older should talk to their physician about getting a colon cancer screening. Colorectal cancer strikes both men and women. Smoking, a diet high in fat and low in calcium, folate and fiber, and a family history of the disease are all risk factors. More than 90 percent of colon cancer cases are diagnosed after the age of 50. Colonoscopy remains one of the best tests to detect colon cancer.

Doctors Hospital at Renaissance continues to be the premier healthcare provider in South Texas. For more information, please call Doctors Hospital at Renaissance at (956) 362-7555 or visit our website at www.dhr-rgv.com.
